Windows Navigation

Here is a tip for navigating Microsoft Windows.

<Alt><Tab>

 Tab Shortcut Keys ...
  1. Press <Alt> and <Tab>.  You will see all your open windows.  
  2. Now release only the <Tab> key and press it again while still holding the <Alt> key.
  3. This will let you cycle through your open windows.  When you get to the window you want release both <Alt> and <Tab>

  1. Press the Windows Logo key and <Tab>

  2. Release both keys.  You will now have all open Windows in a thumbnail view.  
  3. Using the mouse, click on the window you would like.
  4. If you have multiple monitors each thumbnail will display on its respective monitor.

Other Shortcut keys are:
  1. Alt + Esc  -  Cycle through open windows.
  2. Alt + F4  -  Close active window. (If no active window is present, a shutdown box appears.)
  3. Alt + F8  -  Reveals typed password in Sign-in screen.
  4. Alt + Left arrow key  -  Go back.
  5. Alt + Page Down  -  Move down one screen.
  6. Alt + Page Up  -  Move up one screen.
  7. Alt + Right arrow key  -  Go forward.
  8. Alt + Spacebar  -  Open context menu for the active window.
  9. Alt + Tab  -  Switch between open apps while pressing Tab multiple times.
  10. Alt + Underlined letter  -  Runs command for the underlined letter in apps.
  11. Ctrl + Alt + Tab  -  View open apps.
  12. Ctrl + Arrow keys  -  Change Start menu size.
  13. Ctrl + Arrow keys (to select) + Spacebar  -  Select multiple items on desktop or File Explorer.
  14. Ctrl + Click a grouped app button  -  Cycle through windows in the group from the Taskbar.
  15. Ctrl + Down arrow key  -  Move the cursor to the beginning of the next paragraph.
  16. Ctrl + F5 (or) Ctrl + R  -  Refresh current window.
  17. Ctrl + Left arrow key  -  Move the cursor to the beginning of the previous word.
  18. Ctrl + Right arrow key  -  Move the cursor to the beginning of the next word.
  19. Ctrl + Shift + Arrow key  -  Select block of text.
  20. Ctrl + Shift + Esc  -  Open Task Manager.
  21. Ctrl + Up arrow key  -  Move the cursor to the beginning of the previous paragraph
  22. Shift + Arrow keys  -  Select multiple items.
  23. Shift + Click app button  -  Open another instance of an app from the Taskbar.
  24. Shift + F10  -  Open context menu for selected item.
  25. Shift + Right-click app button  -  Show window menu for the app from the Taskbar.
  26. Shift + Right-click grouped app button  -  Show window menu for the group from the Taskbar.
